Artist Statement
Sheng Lin experiments with material through physical, digital, A.I manipulation and photographic compositions in a minimal manner. Exploring the possibilities of white space with light and shadow, he creates evocative visuals woven in delicate contours. Interested in ideas of control, chaos and restraint, he composes these materials to create tension within a confined space. Currently experimenting with the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence in portraiture, he brings chaos in a controlled environment, meticulously selecting images to input through algorithms. What appears to be at random is instead perfected to create a specific outcome, curating a complex relationship between the human versus inhuman emotional experience. Sheng Lin’s work carries an ethereal quality by juxtaposing light and darkness, control and chaos, the real and unreal.
